Walther P1 Identification Serial Number Range

Its a minty commercial Walther P38, 307XXX serial number range.

There is no E. Left side of slide has the Walther banner and standard two line markings include P38.

Right side of the alloy frame is marked Made in West Germany.

In the web of the trigger guard (left side) in very small font is 68 with some type of design following it and below that is some type of German eagle stamp.

The entire slidebarrel assembly is highly polished with a bright-black finish that matches the grips and alloy frame, not the standard dull finish Ive usually encountered on the P1-police trade-ins.

There are two magazines with the pistol that are also this polished blue (black) with the Walther logo and P38 markings.

Is this high polishbright finish encountered very often Am I correct that the 68 on the trigger web indicates 1968 manufacture Does the serial confirm that Last edited by Matt Norman; at 10:40 PM.

Been doing some google work on this as I dont know much about P38s of any vintage.

The design next to the 68 on the trigger web is apparently the antler proof ().

The german eagle stamp appears on a couple places; under the date codetrigger web, right side of frame, and front of frame under the barrel.

Im just trying to date this.

Is 1968 still most likely The bright polish blue is less common then the standard flat black finish, but its not really rare.

Bright blue was a standard finish along with the flat black, its just that more were made in flat black.

I had one on which the bright polish blue had a distinct reddish color in sunlight.

Normally, red or purple colors are a sign of a bluing operation thats out of proper control.

Either the temperature of the bluing tank was off or the chemical was about used up.

I once read what the dot in the circle meant but cant remember.

I think it was to ID an improved part, but they are original factory parts.

Thank you for all the info Learned a lot here; the antler proof thing, the Bundes term for the eagle stamp, that I have a (most likely) 1968 factorycommercial build P38.

I give them high marks for polishblue on the slide and barrel.

Shot it today about 50 rounds of mixed ammo and as one would expect it functioned fine.Just a quick aside Matt.

Please dont expect to use Bundes in the specific context you mention.
